The Israeli army has intensified its attacks on the Gaza Strip, committing additional massacres against civilians and targeting schools and shelters operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The Israeli forces have renewed their pressure on the residents of northern Gaza, urging them to relocate to the southern part of the Strip.
The Israeli escalation has particularly focused on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, where the army has maintained a siege for five consecutive days, committing massacres against civilians while threatening the few remaining operational hospitals with evacuation orders.
The military pressure on the camp’s residents is aimed at forcing them to flee south, in line with what is known as the “Generals’ Plan,” a strategy devised by retired Israeli General Giora Eiland. The plan aims to evacuate civilians after a tight siege.
Unveiled in early September, the “Generals’ Plan” calls for the forced displacement of all Palestinians from northern Gaza within a week, after which the area would be placed under siege, leaving Palestinian fighters with the stark choice of either surrender or death.
Officially, the Israeli army has issued warnings via social media to residents of towns such as Beit Lahia, Jabalia, and Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, as well as other neighborhoods, urging them to evacuate and move to southern Gaza. In an Arabic-language post, the army stated that it is currently conducting “intense operations” in the area.
The army has also issued evacuation orders to hospitals, including Kamal Adwan, the Indonesian Hospital, and Al-Awda, threatening “death, destruction, and arrest” akin to what occurred at Al-Shifa Hospital months earlier, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
In northern Gaza, Dr. Hossam Abu Safia, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, confirmed that the Israeli army had threatened to storm the hospital if it was not evacuated of all patients, wounded, and medical staff within hours.
Speaking to Daraj, Abu Safia described the situation in northern Gaza as catastrophic. “We are working under impossible conditions, with constant threats from the Israeli army, which has made it clear that if we do not evacuate, Kamal Adwan Hospital will face the same fate as Al-Shifa Medical Complex.”
Abu Safia added that the Israeli army designated Salah Al-Din Street as a “safe route” for movement toward Gaza City. However, when an ambulance carrying a patient attempted to pass through, soldiers intercepted it and arrested the driver.
There is a grave risk to the lives of the wounded if the hospital is evacuated due to their critical conditions. Abu Safia noted that eight children with shrapnel wounds all over their bodies are currently in the intensive care unit, entirely dependent on ventilators.
A Complete Siege
On the ground in northern Gaza, the Palestinian Civil Defense confirmed that the Israeli army has imposed a complete siege on the area, isolating it entirely from Gaza City.
A spokesperson for the Civil Defense told Daraj that the Israeli army is preventing essential supplies from entering northern Gaza, threatening the lives of the Palestinians still there.
He explained that dozens of bodies remain on the streets of northern Gaza, uncollected due to the ongoing, relentless Israeli bombardment.
The spokesperson also highlighted that the destruction of northern Gaza’s infrastructure has made movement in the region nearly impossible.
He warned that evacuating hospitals in northern Gaza could lead to the total collapse of the healthcare system, further exacerbating the suffering of the population.
Shortages of Water and Food
Despite the severe Israeli siege on Jabalia, the residents of the camp are refusing to heed the Israeli army’s threats to evacuate to southern Gaza.
Ahmad Moussa, a resident of Jabalia, described the situation as apocalyptic. “The Israeli bombardment, especially from artillery and airstrikes, has been relentless.”
In a faint voice, the 60-year-old told Daraj:”For five days now, the Israeli army has been inside Jabalia, killing people in the streets and in their homes. Water and food have run out in the building where I live, which houses five families.”
Moussa remains steadfast in his decision to stay in his home in Jabalia, refusing to comply with the Israeli army’s demands to evacuate to southern Gaza, even if it means facing further bombardment.
“My neighbors evacuated before me, going south, only to live in tents. Some of them were killed by Israeli airstrikes there. There’s death here, and death there. I’d rather die than face the humiliation of displacement,” Moussa declared.
Similarly, Mohammad Abu Warda refuses to leave his home in Jabalia and head south, as the Israeli army has instructed.
“We die every moment in northern Gaza under the constant bombardment that targets homes and streets,” Abu Warda told Daraj.
Abu Warda, who’s in his 30s, lives with his wife and four children, enduring constant fear, especially as their food and water supplies dwindle and they have no electricity to light their home.
Fuel Shortages
In addition to preventing the entry of food and water, the Israeli army is also blocking fuel deliveries to hospitals as part of its broader military strategy to tighten the siege on Jabalia and force its residents to evacuate.
Ismail Al-Thawabteh, Director of the Government Media Office in Gaza, confirmed that the Israeli army has returned fuel shipments intended for hospitals in Gaza and northern Gaza for the fifth consecutive time. This means that all hospitals and healthcare facilities in these areas are expected to cease operations within 24 hours.
“We are facing a full-fledged crime carried out by the Israeli occupation to destroy and collapse the healthcare system, particularly in Gaza and the northern areas,” Al-Thawabteh told Daraj.
He added that 700,000 people live in these regions, and the situation is dire.
Al-Thawabteh placed full responsibility for this crisis on the Israeli occupation and the U.S. administration, accusing both of intentionally orchestrating the collapse of the healthcare system as part of a coordinated plan.
He called on the international community and all relevant organizations to intervene immediately to allow fuel into the region before the hospitals and healthcare facilities in Gaza and the north cease operations entirely.
Massacres in Central and Southern Gaza
In central Gaza, the Israeli army committed another massacre by targeting the Rafida School in Deir al-Balah, killing 28 displaced people and wounding 54 others, according to the latest figures from the Palestinian Ministry of Health on Thursday, October 10.
This is the second school targeted by the Israeli army in less than 24 hours, following the bombing of Al-Raf’i School, which was sheltering thousands of displaced people in Jabalia, northern Gaza.
The Government Media Office documented the Israeli army’s targeting of 187 shelters and displacement centers since the war began on October 7, 2023, with over 1,060 civilians killed in these attacks.
In Khan Younis, Israeli airstrikes continue to target civilian homes, resulting in more massacres. The air force struck four homes in the eastern part of the city, causing civilian casualties.
Meanwhile, the army issued new evacuation orders to residents in Bani Suheila, Al-Mahatta, Sheikh Nasser, and Ma’an in southern Gaza.
